Barbagia di Belvì Mandrolisai
Monti del Gennargentu
The heart of Sardinia available to travelers
and tourists.
The mountain in the middle of the sea
The Barbagia of Belvì, Mandrolisai and the Gennargentu mountain range represent an area of great landscape, cultural and food and wine significance.
We are in the heart of Sardinia, where you find small mountain villages, artisanal activities
and agropastoral traditions, archaeological and cultural sites, important wineries.
The Gennargentu
is made up of a series of hills that reach 1800 meters, among which Punta Lamarmora, Bruncu Spina, and Sa Crista stand out, an environment characterized by deep valleys where a form of traditional pastoralism still survives, a true cultural heritage. In this environment, the Flumendosa river has carved its course, forming a landscape rich in small lakes and gorges, and in this context Sa Stiddiosa emerges.
Mandrolisai
has become famous for its vineyards and its wine, the Mandrolisai DOC. A place that has rightfully entered the European register of historic rural landscapes. Low-yield bush-trained vineyards, alternating with cork oak woods and pastures. Over 1500 hectares of vineyards have facilitated the creation of numerous micro-wineries, thanks to which tastings and vineyard walks can be organized.
Remarkable is the pre-Nuragic and Nuragic archaeological heritage: Nuraghi, Domus de Janas, and Menhirs.
The Barbagia of Belvì
is a predominantly wooded area, a sea of green interrupted here and there by tiny villages, inhabited by mountain people who still maintain numerous traditional crafts: wood carving, knife making, natural dyeing, bell making, weaving, and embroidery. Despite everything and everyone, the art of cheese making, preparing the famous local ham, and beekeeping still survive.
